World Breast Cancer Research Day: August 18
October may be Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but we’re getting a head start by recognizing August 18th as World Breast Cancer Research Day.
The 18th day of the 8th month is significant: 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer every year. A breast cancer diagnosis is never good news, but thanks to relentless research, we are more equipped now than ever to cure breast cancer. For more info, visit Dr. Susan Love’s Research site.
As with any disease, the earlier the detection, the better the prognosis! Early detection can be ensured by performing monthly self-checks, scheduling annual physicals, and having recommended mammograms (helpful guidelines). Need details about screenings & tests? Talk to your primary physician, or visit this website.
On a more personal note, four of the women in our extended Siena Group family have been diagnosed with breast cancer – 3 survived and 1 was mournfully lost. We can ALL do something to fight cancer: we can support the fighters, admire the survivors, honor the taken, and never, ever give up hope for a cure. 💗
